Episode 5: Why I Quit In-Person Sales

Episode 5: Why I Quit In-Person Sales

Listen on: Apple Podcast | Spotify

You may have heard that IPS (In-Person Sales) is the only “real” way to make money in our industry. IPS is the process of selling prints and products to the client during an in-person meeting.

In-person sales is definitely not for everyone and I’m speaking from my own personal experience when I say that. I participated in this sales model for over a year and in this week’s episode, I’ll be discussing why I transitioned away from it.

While I enjoyed the aspect of watching my clients react to their images for the first time and building that personal relationship with them, I was left feeling burned out at the end of the day. I was spending more time away from my family and wasn’t even spending this extra time doing what I loved the most — being behind the camera.

Nowadays, many clients and photographers alike find it to be more convenient to complete this process online, at their own time and pace. Many clients don’t even want to spend extra time at your studio, away from their family and other commitments, when they could simply peruse through an online gallery instead.

You can absolutely make money without offering in-person sale appointments. With the time you’re saving, you can even opt to take on more clients and spend more time doing what you love to do — taking photos.

I talk about:

  • The pros and cons of in-person sales
  • Why I made the move away from IPS
  • How to build a more streamlined and efficient system
  • Aligning your systems with your priorities
